Starting your freelance career
- April 9, 2019
Let's say that you have decided to become a freelancer. The reasons may be different-you may become a stay at home mom, you may be a student at college who needs some side money, a father that is trying to get a second job, or just someone who is so tired of the current job and wants to be its own boss. Nevermind what your situation is, there are some universal rules every soon to be freelancer must know. Check out the facts below and start your new career full of confidence!
1. What will you do? Of course, you cannot just become a freelancer if you don't have something to offer to your clients. You probably have some knowledge that can be sold, but you must think of it. Or you just have some talent. Is that music? Writing? Be specific about what will you do as a freelancer.
2. Find some reliable online platforms. There are many places in which you can offer your services to the clients, but the best would be to start with those that are most reliable. You can try with Up Work, Freelancer, Fiverr, People Per Hour...
3. Invest in your knowledge. You will need to learn a lot by each and every day when you become a freelancer. Why wouldn't you start now? Check the profiles of all those freelancers which are working in the same field as you plan to. See what are their qualifications and what knowledge they have. Once you realize if you are missing something, you can always search online for some free tutorials and get a certificate. It will help you a lot, trust me.
4. Organize yourself. When you become a freelancer, you will need to organize your day more than ever. It may sound great to work from home (and it is great), but you need to create some peaceful place from where will you work. If you have children, or some other family members living in the same house, explain to them how you are not just on your computer, but working. You need peace and concentration.
